Sheldon Adelson and LV Sands Corporation

Sheldon G. Adelson was  a visionary leader and entrepreneur, loyal to his family, friends and employees. An internationally renowned businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, his career spanned nearly seven decades and included creating and developing more than 50 companies, including the COMDEX trade show for the computer industry. At his direction, COMDEX became the world’s largest trade show.

Mr. Adelson was the founder of Las Vegas Sands Corp., a company which has become one of the leading global developers of integrated resorts. In Las Vegas, he is credited for helping transform the city from a gaming-centric regional location into the leading convention city in the United States. His influence and integrated resort developments have helped to redefine tourism and gaming in Macao and in Singapore, where he opened the Marina Bay Sands in 2010.

During his lifetime, he was honored with the Armed Forces Foundation’s Patriot Award, Hotel Investment Conference’s Innovation Award, Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship, and induction into the American Gaming Association’s Hall of Fame. He and his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson, remain celebrated as philanthropists known for their gifts to a variety of civic and charitable causes.

In 2014, Mr. Adelson and his company gave a multi-million-dollar gift to support the construction of UNLV’s premier Hospitality Hall. The Sands Corporation is also the namesake behind the Harrah College of Hospitality’s professional development center, which provides continuing education to industry employees worldwide. Mr. Adelson was the inaugural speaker at the Hospitality College’s “Conversations on Leadership” event in 2014.
