Joe and Julie Murphy
UNLV’s outstanding relationship with Joe and Julie Murphy dates back to 1999. Their belief in giving back to the community started early in the development of Joe’s career—and UNLV became a beneficiary of that belief.
Joe Murphy came to Las Vegas in 1981 at age 18 to serve in the U.S. Air Force. After finishing his commitment at Nellis Air Force Base, he met and married his wife Julie, and began his career as an electrician.
In 1989, Joe founded Murphy Electric Inc. He built the company on a reputation of promptness, professionalism, and service, focusing on nourishing relationships with repeat clients.
Today, Murphy Electric’s clients include manufacturers, retailers, schools, banks, data processing centers, industrial facilities, and hotels. Joe also co-founded NextGen companies, which provides low-voltage, fire, security alarms, monitoring and fire protection solutions throughout the U.S.
UNLV has prospered from Joe and Julie’s desire to give back. Their support has been especially transformational to Rebel Athletics.
In addition, in 2015, they established the Emily Stevens Scholarship in memory of the daughter of family friends. The scholarship supports a student completing their medical education through the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV.
As a leader, Joe has served on the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation.
“As our city continues to grow and diversify,” Joe said, “UNLV is there helping us become a great city.” The Murphys are part of that greatness.
