The Greenspun Family
The Greenspun family has played a major role in the growth and development of Las Vegas since patriarch Herman Milton “Hank” Greenspun was a partner in the opening of radio station KRAM 920 AM in 1947, and published the first issue of The Las Vegas Sun newspaper in 1950. The Greenspuns also model a spirit of philanthropy. Their involvement with UNLV spans decades and generations, and they have truly made a mark on the campus.
Thanks to the family’s leadership and generosity, UNLV was able to establish the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs and the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies to carry on Hank’s legacy. The family also helped make possible the five-story Greenspun Hall, which houses the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs and provides a hub for budding journalists, advocates, and environmentalists to hone their skills and expand their reach. It stands as a wonderful tribute to the many contributions the Greenspuns have made not only to UNLV but to the entire community.
Through Barbara Greenspun’s generosity and service on the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees, and the continued contributions of her children, the Greenspuns demonstrate a commitment to educating the next generation of student and community leaders. Their gifts reach students who are able to learn hands-on through the UNLV-TV studios, participate in global conferences on civic issues, and bridge knowledge across disciplines in the college.
In 2009, the Greenspun family was honored as a Ruby member of the Palladium Society, or donors who have contributed a cumulative of $25 million or more to UNLV.
